Gum Contouring
What is gum contouring?
Everyone has a different gum line. Some cover a lot of tooth structure (gummy smile) some are low, some are in between. Some may even be uneven.
Gum contouring is also known as gingival sculpting or gingivoplasty. It is a cosmetic procedure that can change the shape of your gums ( the way they surround your tooth).
This enables the dentist to cut away excess gum tissue if you have a gummy smile or restore gum tissue that has receded and is now exposing too much of your teeth (root coverage procedures )
Cutting away more gum tissue to expose the tooth surface is also called crown lengthening.
